Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Located around 60km from Munnar, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is known for xerophytes species with thorny scrub forest. One can see various species like Elephant, Gaur, Spotted Deer, Panther, Sambar, Hanuman Langur, Rabbit etc. on either side of forest while travelling from Munnar to Chinnar.


Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National Park15 km away from Munnar, Eravikulam National Park is spread over 97 sq. kms, home of Nilgiri Tahr. In the Southern area of the park, The Anamudi peak (2695 m) is situated. The park is popular for adventure tourism due to its breathtaking views and facility for trekking. This beautiful park was converted as sanctuary in 1975.


Rajamala
RajamalaRajamala (15 km from Munnar) is located at a height of 2695 m from the sea level. Half of the world population of Ibex or Niligiri tahr is founded in this park other than Israel. Estimated population of Nilgiri Tahrs is more than 1300 in Rajmala.

Silent Valley National Park
Silent Valley National ParkIn India, the last substantial stretch of tropical evergreen rain forests is founded in The Silent Valley. Enriched with tigers, Elephants, flying squirrel, wild dog and lion-tailed macaque, this valley is the only remnant of virgin forest in Western Ghats. To reach to the source of the river from Mukkali, one has to walk at least 24 km on foot.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
Periyar Wildlife SanctuaryPeriyar National Park, one of the fascinating wildlife parks is situated within the margins of the Western Ghats, Kerala. In the year 1895, water resources management plans were undertaken under the guidance of the British. With the support of Col. J. Pennycuick, work on artificial lake and dam started. The pleasing lake of around 55 sq km is located in the heart of sanctuary. Continuous source of water slowly attracted a large number of wild animals that resulted in the place being protected by the Maharaja of Travancore. After 1975, Periyar was in the position to be called as a protected tiger reserve as well as national park.

Attractions in Periyar National Park
Periyar National Park is famous for:

* Elephants, Wild Pigs, Gaur, Barking Deer, Sambar, Dole, Mouse Deer or Indian Wild Dog and Tiger around 40 in number.
* Four species of primates: Common Langur, the Nilgiri Langur, the rare lion-tailed macaque and Bonnet Macaque.
* Nilgiri Tahr, rarely to be seen.
* Birdlife: Cormorants, Darters, the great Malabar Hornbill, Kingfishers and racket-tailed Drongoes.
* Monitor Lizards
* Python and King Cobra.
* The refreshing air of moist deciduous forest that provides peace to the visitor
* Playful pachyderms whose population rate is around 800.
* The beautiful landscape ranges from flat grassland areas at the banks of the lake to the hilly areas.
* Moist deciduous type vegetation.
